The largest stingray species are found in freshwater. There are accounts of individuals weighing over 1,000 pounds, and can be up to 20 feet in length—among the largest of the approximately 200 species of rays.
This ocean stingray was thought to be the largest ever, at 2.5 meters across, while the largest freshwater was only 2 meters across. It’s pretty close though.
