Chilean, Andean, Caribbean, James’, and greater flamingos are considered threatened species – meaning they are likely to become endangered if protection measures are not taken. None of the flamingos with ranges overlapping the US are listed on the Endangered Species Act, but they are protected under the US Migratory Bird Act. So although they are not declining at as fast a rate as some other tropical birds, flamingos definitely deserve protection and respect for their native habitat. With the right protection measures, we can continue to enjoy the existence of these remarkable birds for many years.
