Are coal-fired power plants evenly distributed around the U.S., or concentrated more in some areas?

    There are far more in the eastern half of the country, probably because those regions have been settled and in need of power for longer, while the western states have turned more to sources of power like hydroelectric and (more recently) other types of alternative energy.
