Are exhaust fans bad for the environment?

Exhaust fans keep moisture, smoke, and odors out of your bathroom or kitchen.  Because of this, they are an important part of many homes.  They do use a fair amount of electricity, which can be considered bad for the environment, but in many homes, the alternative to not having an exhaust fan could actually be dangerous.  Aside from its use of electricity, if and exhaust fan is installed improperly, cold air could leak into the house, resulting in more energy being used for heating.  A greener alternative to using an exhaust fan for any fresh air issues would be using windows in the spring and summer time as a means to circulate air in the house.

    Hope this helps!
