Without the use of it’s trunk, the elephant would be quite lost. Like humans and their hands, elephant’s trunks are use for picking up their young, eating, extracting fruit from trees, drinking, touching, bathing, and investigating it’s surroundings. Not to mention, the trunk is used for picking up scents, breathing, as a snorkel or a straw, and picking up things the size of marbles to tree branches. The African elephant even has two finger like objects on the end of its trunk, while the Asian elephant only has one.
lfw2887 has the right answer. The elephant’ trunk is similar to human hands in terms of its function.
