Despite cutting emissions and being more efficient in stop and go traffic, electric buses have a few major drawbacks: they take 6-8 hours to charge and are more expensive than diesel or hybrid buses, and most significantly, they may rely on coal-burning power plants for energy, thus offsetting the emissions reduced by not burning gas. They’re a great idea in theory but will only really work to be energy efficient if there’s a better renewable energy infrastructure in place to charge them with.
