While electric chainsaws do not have the requirement to use gas, and therefore do not have emissions directly from the source, they may not necessarily be more green. You will have to determine the source of your power to analyze this (and additionally consider the efficiency of both models). If your electricity is generated through burning coal, there are still emissions associated with the electricity production. However, if the electricity comes from solar, wind or hydroelectric power, it might be a very green option.
The electric chain saw is relatively more friendly on the environment than regular gas powered saws. The main reason is that unlike a gas powered chainsaw, you do not have to be concerned with fuel or engine oil causing environmental problems since electric powered chain saws use an external power source in order to function.
