This is a somewhat complicated question that doesn’t have a definite answer at this point. As it stands, most car companies are treating electric cars as something of an experiment judging by the limited availability (only a few select markets so far). If these experiments prove lucrative for these companies, then electric vehicles could very well replace the hybrids like the Prius. However, given the lack of infrastructure for charging and the limited range of affordable electric vehicles (100mi on a full charge for the Nissan Leaf), it seems that electric vehicle technology has a long way to go before it replaces vehicles like the Prius.
