Family Dollar Stores Inc. opened an eco-friendly store building in Woodruff, South Carolina last year. The store is Family Dollar’s first building designed to meet LEED-certification standards. It features heavier insulation and incorporate skylight, which should help to conserve energy.
Dollar stores also offer eco-friendly items.
Dollar stores facilitate the reuse of items. If individuals buy used items instead of purchasing new items, they can claim a smaller carbon footprint, and the demand for the creation of new materials that leave an environmental impact will decrease, however slightly. The net environmental effect, though, has to be weighed against each individual store’s environmental impact with regards to their facilities.
