During this period of global warming, deserts and desert-like conditions are spreading. The Sahara desert is expanding towards the south at a current rate of 30 miles per year. Experts estimate that due to warming, deserts could expand as much as 34% in the next century. This could obviously have catastrophic effects and is yet another reason why we must do what we can to stop global warming.
