Are dairy farms or beef farms worse for the environment?

The two intersect so much — we grow much more grain than we should (harming our land) to feed both sorts of cattle, dairy and beef cattle are both fed hormones (albeit different ones) and excrete waste that end up hurting our water supply, and cows period contribute carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Often, farms and factory farms deal with both dairy and beef — they offload male calfs to be slaughtered while raising the females for their milk. The bottom line is that they are both terrible for the environment, in the bloated, artificial way that they are now operated.
