Are crystals delicate?

Generally speaking, no not at all. They are solid. Quartz, amethyst, and citrine are several examples, and for lack of a better word, they feel like rocks. Though many different crystals possess an assortment of qualities, they are generally tough. For instance diamonds are a crystal and we use them to cover saw blades to cut through the toughest of materials.

Some crystals are very delicate, and also rare. But remember, if you buy a pretty colored piece that breaks too easily, it might be made of glass. Many times, crystal vendors also sell pieces made of glass because they have a lovely physical appearance. But don’t be fooled. Ask about the origin of your pieces if you’re not sure.

This is best answered if you understand the chemical composition of crystals and the way in which the structure is bonded. There are some very strong crystals such as diamonds, however, some are very brittle in nature – like snowflakes!
