Eco-friendly rating is usually determined by the maker of the game, not necessarily the console it is played on. Nintendo is seen by Greenpeace to be fairly bad for the environment for their policy on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change.
Sony was ranked average at least, for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 200-2008.
Attention also should be paid to whether or not the game is played online. Using an internet connection to transfer amounts of information uses a great deal more energy than simply using a console that is not connected. Every transfer, download, or upload consumes energy, so that should be taken into consideration.
