Are the commercials about clean coal lying?

Technically, it is illegal to outright lie in advertising. However, there are lots of twisting the truth, and advocates of “clean coal” have become experts at this strategy. The concept of clean coal was developed largely by coal companies and heavy users of fossil fuel-generated electricity in an attempt to convince the public that coal can have a place in our clean energy future. In fact, the vast bulk of the convincing evidence suggests that clean coal technology is a long way off from being developed, if it will ever be available at all. At present, there is no major coal-fired power plant that has figured out a way to trap all the carbon it emits. Many of the clean coal adds were created and sponsored by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCE) – a group that bills itself as a collection of concerned citizens, but in fact includes some of the largest coal mining companies in the world, as well as other major users of coal electricity. ACCE is not a reputable organization, and what they say should be taken with a serious grain of salt.
