Anything that it not natural and that doesn’t generate its own energy is bad for the environment. When asking questions like “is xxx device bad for the environment” it is important to ask what your alternatives are. Will you wear wrinkly clothes instead? Then, in that case, the construction, shipping and use of a steamer is bad for the environment. I would imagine that they use about the same energy that an iron would, so that is not necessarily a better option. However, you could try to hang your clothes in the bathroom while you take a shower. Sometimes the steam generated is enough to get out wrinkles, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over a clothing steamer as it is just creating water vapors and should not use harmful chemicals.
