Coqui frogs have a call that is about equal to standing next to a chain saw that is running! The frogs have recently been introduced from Puerto Rico to Hawai’i on tropical plants used for landscaping (the frogs were hidden among the leaves). The tropical plants are often put near hotels or houses and the frogs have adapted to their new home. They call very loudly at night and are annoying to tourists and residents. Efforts are being made to stop the invasion of the frogs, but they breed very quickly and are now in large numbers in Hawai’i.
Bullfrogs do have a loud call, especially of the species found in the northern portions of the United States.
