Are bug zappers bad for health and the environment?

Bug zappers are usually a better alternative than chemical repellents. Chemical sprays can unintentionally make children sick if they swallow the spray or get it int heir eye, or it can spill and pollute the groundwater. Bug zappers kill bugs by injuring them, making them no more damaging to the environment than a flyswatter. If you can find a bug zapper that runs on a solar panel, so much the better.
