Are beavers a problem in the wild?

Although beavers have a significant and very noticeable effect on the environment, namely the creation of dams which appear to be quite disruptive, from an ecological point of view the net effect of beaver activity on their surrounding area is positive. Beaver activity is important in spurring the ecological regeneration of an ecosystem.

Beavers can cause some issues that people have to deal with. Overall beavers are a sign of a healthy ecosystem, and in many cases they are an essential component to healthy wetland and stream ecosystems. Some problems that beavers can cause for people are dam construction which can lead to; flooding, loss of agricultural crops, increased threat of levee failure, increased brush growth, and an increase in the local mosquito population. Most of these problems could be avoided if humans did not develop on the beaver’s native habitat.
