Are bananas still imported from South America?

A great chunk of banana exports come from Ecuador and Columbia, which are located in South America and rank first and third in the value of bananas exported.  Costa Rica ranks second and is technically part of Central America which is considered part of the North American continent.  The Philippines is the only top 5 exporter outside of Latin America.  THe U.S., France, and Italy fill out positions 6 through 8 in banana exports, though these are only a fraction of their banana imports and only a fraction of what countries like Ecuador and Costa Rica are exporting.

Yes, a majority of the bananas consumed in the US are imported from South America.  Costa Rica and Ecuador are the largest suppliers to the US.
