Are artificial carbon scrubbing trees too expensive to be effective?

The costs for synthetic carbon scrubbing trees have come down recently. I would say that the major problem is what the DO with all the carbon once you get it out of the air.

The article cited below says that a set of synthetic trees that could remove one ton of CO2 per day from the atmosphere would cost around $30,000 US.

Actual trees take carbon out of the air too.
