The pine actually falls under the Conifer family. The larger group is the Conifer which contains; Pines, Hemlock, cedars, cypress, and Larch. All these trees have needles, but are not all pines. All pines are conifers, but not all conifers are pines.
Pinaceae is the taxonomic family into which pines are catagorized. Larches, firs, cedars, hemlocks are all also in the what is commonly called the Pine Family (e.g. Pinaceae). All these trees have needles. The term conifers refers to a reproductive strategy–they bear cones– not to a taxonomic plant family.
