Are aquifers and groundwater related?

    Yes.  Aquifers are water-permeable rocks beneath the Earth’s surface.  Aquifers store groundwater.

    Groundwater is a general term to describe water found below the earth’s surface, such as in a well or underground basin.  An aquifer is a more descriptive term usually meant to define a large repository of water that has built up over time and is regularly replenished by natural phenomena such as rain and snow runoff or by rivers and streams.  So you could find groundwater in an aquifer, as an example of the terminology being applied.
