Since about 2007 there has been a decline in the average amount of miles driven by Americans. This is mostly attributed to the increase in gas prices, as there were also decreases in driving miles during other gas price increases. The current decrease is miles driven is much larger than previously seen. However, on a larger time scale (more that just a couple of years) we are driving many more miles than we did in previous decades.
