As far as my research shows, all underground subway systems in the US are electric. A few subways systems started out using steam engines, but quickly turned to electric. As electric system is easier to control and regulate. An overhead wire, or a third rail supplies the power to the train, ventilation system, and traffic lights.
Yes, all subway systems in the United States are electric powered. Subway systems are a wonderful way to commute (when ran efficiently) and are environmentally friendly as well.
