Are all government buildings in New York required to go green?

This fall, the state of New York passed the State Green Building Construction Act, which mean that any new government building in the state must meet green building requirements.  This requirement also covers buildings undergoing major renovation, meaning that many existing government buildings will eventually be made more sustainable, too.  The State Green Buildings Construction Act is a sign of New York’s state government taking important initiative to stimulate investments in energy efficiency and produce new jobs through green construction projects.  It is a sign of the type of concrete steps state and local governments can take to curb global warming without federal help.
