Yes, Africanized honey bees are important to pollinating crops. They are relatively recent immigrants and have only been in the US since the 1990’s, earning a somewhat daunting reputation because they are territorial. They gather pollen to produce honey and wax for their hive just as the European honey bee does. The result of gathering pollen from so many sources is a very healthy flora population. Honey bees are responsible for the pollination of crops used to create one-third of the foods that we consume.
