Are Africanized honey bees hurting the American honey bee populations?

Africanzed honey bees can be a threat to American (European) honey bee hives due to their aggressive nature.  If they are attempting to find a new hive site, they may attack an existing honey bee hive and kill the queen, destroying the hive structure.  These bees can also crossbreed with the European strain, thereby Africanizing them and passing on the aggressive traits inherent in the original strain.
