It is questionable whether or not Aptera will receive an Energy Department loan, but it is definite that the company can now qualify for such a loan. The Senate voted 80-17 to open the bill for ultra efficient vehicles that get at least 75 mpg for consideration. This was an amendment in the 2007 Energy Bill to give “low-interest direct loans to help companies set up or expand manufacturing for plug-in, hybrid and high-efficiency vehicles.” This bill is also separate from the recent Stimulus Program. Aptera is a company that produces the 2e vehicle, which is a 3-wheeled car facing high competition to receive a requested $75 million loan from the DOE.
