The National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder study on CO2 emissions cites the dangers forest fires cause to the atmosphere.  The study states that there was approximately 290 million metric tons of carbon dioxide released a year from the United States.  This covers about 4%-6% of the total emitted from fossil fuel burning.
