Sesame seeds, also called Benne seeds, date back over 5,000 years.  They were burnt by the Asian cultures and used in ink blocks.  The Romans ground sesame seeds and cumin as a spread for their sandwiches.  The Arabs thought it had magical powers and thus was born the mystical phrase of “Open Sesame” that is often portrayed in cartoons and movies with an Arabian story line.  This interesting seed also produces Sesame Oil which is both tasty and has holistic properties to relieve stress and is said to lower blood pressure.
