Is the amount of subsidies for fuel greater for Fossil fuels because there are more of them?

Not quite. The reason that the subsidies for fossil fuels are greater than other types of fuels is because those industries have been around much longer. Humans have been burning coal and oil since even before industrialization, long before we learned how to engineer bio-fuels or tap into the power of the sun. Fossil fuel industries have a vested interest in continuing government subsidies and the fact that they have been around for a long time and are quite large (hence employing lots of people) means that they have the political clout to persuade government to continue support through subsidies.
