Aircrafts are actually mostly made of aluminum. About 80% of aircrafts get recycled and this aluminum is turned into automobiles and their parts. Steel is actually usually only found in the landing gear but is still salvaged. But every ton of recycled steel saves 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,000 pounds of coal and 40 pounds of limestone. One pound of steel well run a 60 watt lightbulb for a day.
