A Boeing 747 can produce up to 100 tons of valuable recycled metal, a very high percentage of that being aluminum. According to the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association, their members salvage an estimated 30,000 tons of aluminum, 1,800 tons of special alloys, and 600 tons of technical parts every year.
“Every three months, Americans discard enough aluminum to completely rebuild every single commercial airplane in America.”
