Actually, aerosol extinguishers have been found to be a better substitute to the common Halon-based extinguishers. The aerosol extinguishers are not dangerous to humans, and use a mix of potassium nitrate to nullify the combustion process when a fire is burning. This system has been successful with oil and chemical fires in addition to normal fires, and can be used in small spaces effectively. The aerosol extinguishers are also able to be mounted and used in conjunction with an automated fire extinguishing system.
