Is acidification a problem in rivers in addition to the ocean?

    Yes. Acidification has been occurring in the Earth’s rivers constantly because it is a natural process, however in the last century, it has become more of a problem because of human interaction. In addition to changes in climate, which are affecting rivers, lakes and streams, run-off and chemical pollution from industry and industrial agriculture have washed nitrogen, sulfur, phosphates and other chemicals into rivers, making them dangerously acidic and polluted.
