The recommended age for routine screenings was recommended for women 40 years of age until a recent change by the government health task force. The new recommended age to start routine screenings is 50 years. It is also noted that this is not a blanket suggestion that applies to all women. The American Cancer Society is opposed to this change and feels that beginning earlier mammograms has proven to be beneficial. One can always administer self exams as a precautionary measure.
