A nonpolar molecule could not be dissolved in water because water is a polar molecule, thus it will tend to dissolve other polar molecules.

This leaves you with the last three choices. Water can dissolve an ionic compound such as magnesium chloride because of its categorization as a salt; it dissociates into ions. A polar molecule such as fructose is also highly soluble in water, as is something like ethyl alcohol. To determine which of these is the most soluble, keep in mind that the shorter the chemical chain length, the more soluble the polar molecule is.
