I'm wondering if you meant to write 'orchids?' If not, I apologize for doubting you. But if you meant orchids, Detroit was the home of Anna Scripps-Whitcomb, an orchid lover and collector who died in 1953. By that time she had already saved the endangered Cypripediums, by ordering 25 hybrids from Great Britain to be protected from devastation from the WWII. Her hundreds of orchids were left to the city after her death, and Detroit renamed their conservatory after her, renovated it, and house the offspring of her orchids to this day.
