Did Honda produce the first hybrid car?
Not exactly. Hybrid and electric vehicles have a history that goes back much further than we realize. In 1888, Immisch & Co. built a 4 person carriage that was powered by a one horsepower engine and a 24 cell battery. If you want to get technical, this could be considered the first hybrid (meaning two or more distinct power sources combined) car produced. There were actually a good deal of electric and hybrid cars produced before 1900.
If we are talking about the first mass produced hybrid car, then the Prius would be the answer. Toyota proposed the car in 1992 and was readily available by 1997. It is still the most popular hybrid car on the market.
