Vampire power, is energy consumed by appliances and electronics that may not even be on, but are still plugged into sockets and sapping electricity.  Some examples of repeat offenders include laptops, cellphones, iPods, etc.  Any appliance that charges or has a "sleep" mode when you plug it in will normally be consuming "vampire power".  Below is a cool little youtube video that explains it much more eloquently!
