What needs to happen to make a rainbow?

It is related to the refraction of light.  When light reflects on the surface of water or a substance that would produce a rainbow, it produces different wavelengths of light.  These wavelengths have colors associated with them.  For example, shorter wavelengths result in bluish colors, while longer ones result in reddish ones.
