I assume you're referring to locust swarms. A recent major outbreak was in 2004 was in West and North Africa and surrounding areas. It started separately in Mauritania, Mali, Niger, and Sudan. Consequent rains in Senegal and Morocco, resulting in locust swarms moving into Morocco and Algeria. Afterwards it spread over North Africa and Sahel and as far as Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Portugal, and Crete.

There are a few locust species, any of which could result in a swarm. They are in Southern Africa, Australia, Southern Sahara, and the areas affected in the 2004 outbreak of desert locust.
