The first archielogical evidence of millet being domesticated comes from India around 4000 years ago however, scientists believe that millet is native to Africa was spread to India, Asia and Europe as our ancestors first left Africa. Because of this, most believe it was first domesticated on the African continent some 4500 years ago and was subsequently taken with emigrants because it is such a useful grain.
