Success: Congratulate Montana for Rejecting Coal Development

Target: Brian Morris, Judge for the District of Montana

Goal: Congratulate Judge Morris for protecting precious land and resources from oil drilling.

A Montana court delivered a heroic ruling recently and saved over 15 million acres of land from being turned into coal mines and oil refineries. A proposal by the Bureau of Land Management would have desecrated sacred land in Montana and Wyoming.

Thanks to efforts by conservation groups, the case made it to court in Montana, where Judge Brian Morris ruled the proposal to be unlawful. The case took several years to fight and was an uphill battle for the defense, but thanks to Judge Morris and all of the environmental groups involved, Montana and Wyoming will remain beautiful. Sign this petition below to thank Judge Morris for his tremendous decision.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Morris,

Thank you for allowing pristine land to remain beautiful under environmental protection. By ruling this proposal unlawful, you have set a precedent as we shift towards renewable energy. Now, when land groups seek to desecrate beautiful land, they will have an exceedingly more difficult time doing so.

If judges like you continue to protect our environment in the age of Trump and the Pruitt-led EPA, then our planet stands a chance of survival. With an administration so determined to kill the planet, decisions like yours make all of the difference.

Sincerely,

Demand EPA Ban Deadly Chemical in Household Products

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Follow through with ban on lethally toxic paint-thinning chemical.

A common household product is already responsible for killing dozens of people. Methlyene chloride is a chemical found in common paint thinners that has been found to be toxic to humans, yet the Environmental Protection Agency has not followed through with a proposed ban on the chemical.

The EPA had plans to ban the product altogether after Obama-era regulations were put in place, yet the agency has moved to a standstill in regards to banning the chemical. The chemical has been found to be too toxic to use indoors and has killed dozens of people already, including veterans, teenagers, and a mother of four. Sign the petition below to demand the EPA go through with the ban.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Pruitt,

Once again, your agency is doing a terrible job at protecting the environment from harmful chemicals. This time, the problem has spread to suburbia, where people are just trying to strip paint from the sides of their houses. Nobody should have to worry about dying when they’re stripping paint.

Choosing to take your time on this issue does nothing but further harm at-risk families. There is no positive outcome that happens when you keep a toxic chemical like this legal, so why are you hesitating? We, the American people, demand a solution to this issue at once. Ban methlyene chloride now!

Sincerely,

Demand Protection Against Rising Sea Levels

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Prevent widespread damage from flooding caused by climate change.

Rising sea levels are now an immediate threat to coastal cities. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, recently reported that rising sea levels are creating conditions for high-tide floods to occur on a far more regular basis than before. Major coastal cities like Miami and San Francisco are already experiencing more flood days than usual. The reports show that within 100 years major coastal cities will be flooding daily, with San Francisco sinking into the earth with every passing day.

Currently, some cities are adopting measures to prepare for the inevitable and reduce damage wherever possible. The extent of the damage is entirely dependent on how cities react, so it’s absolutely urgent that they begin enacting legislation to protect coastal towns now. Sign the petition below to demand the EPA get the ball rolling on tangible solutions.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Pruitt,

No community should have to worry about extreme flooding of their homes. Yet, people in major cities like New York, Norfolk, San Francisco, Miami, and more are at severe risk of losing their homes due to climate change-related sea level rises.

The one thing you can do is enact policies that require coastal cities to create a budget for dealing with sea level rises. Several cities already started without you, so get on the right side of history with this issue. I demand you enact a policy of this sort; it’s the least you can do.

Sincerely,

Stop EPA Head Scott Pruitt from Killing the Earth

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Demand the EPA stop adopting agendas that actively damage Mother Earth and her inhabitants.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is potentially the biggest threat we’ve seen to the environment since the first climate change studies were released. Every policy he implements is done behind closed doors, without public consultation, and these meetings typically end in some extremely important regulation being rolled back. One recent example is how the EPA found that neighborhoods of color are far more likely to suffer consequences from city pollution, yet Pruitt still planned to remove existing protections for areas affected by pollution.

Pruitt’s climate agenda is not only reckless, but it appears to be anti-environment altogether. Pruitt’s EPA has announced plans to lift bans on toxic chemicals and remove our clean water protections, and treats climate change as if it were a blessing to the planet. Back when Pruitt was just an Oklahoma attorney general, he sued the EPA over a dozen times over clean air and water regulations. Now that he’s in charge of the EPA, he’s just removing those regulations himself. Demand that Pruitt stop enacting these dangerous policies.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Pruitt,

It is your sole responsibility to enact regulations that keep the Earth alive and healthy; why are you seemingly doing the exact opposite? You’ve been entrusted to protect the most valuable home we have, and yet you seek to burn the house down instead of safeguarding it.

When you can prove that people of color are more affected by pollution than their white counterparts, you should take measures to heal that damage, not worsen it. Attacking clean water will only make the rivers dry up faster, not preserve them. You need to implement policies that actually represent your job title.

Sincerely,
